In the world of oncology, the collective work amongst different centers and specialists forms the basis on which to increase experience and enhance the quality of patient care.

Therefore, in 1991 the Spanish Lung Cancer Group (SLCG) was created to become an independent non-profit cooperative group, whose aim is to promote the study and research of lung cancer.

The SLCG is comprised of medical oncology specialists, thoracic surgery specialists, and basic investigators. It encompasses more than 90 centers, both public and private, across the whole of the Spanish geography. The group has also initiated projects in collaboration with specialists in radiotherapy oncology, across diverse specific protocols.

The SLCG has carried out clinical investigation activities across the different types of lung cancer and in diverse clinical situations, from initial to advanced stages. In the different protocols and clinical tests conducted (> 30), they have treated more than 3,000 patients.

The SLCG participates, develops and coordinates international projects with other such groups that are well known in the field of lung cancer clinical research.

A distinctive characteristic of the SLCG, since its inception, has been the close collaboration in all of its projects with the techniques of basic genetic and molecular investigation.
